Rating 8 out of 10
TimeLock is a high-octane action thriller with a classic feel, reminiscent of Michael Crichton or Tom Clancy. It’s familiar, but in all the right ways. "The central concept is brilliant. Criminals no longer serve out their sentences in years, but they go through a machine that ages them — in essence, providing instant justice. . . . The novella is tightly paced, and there’s not a dull moment. It’s lean, and it’s easy to read, and it builds a lot of suspense in a short time. The introduction is particularly engaging, with an absolutely killer prologue that sucks you in right from the start. Reading TimeLock, I felt like I was watching a movie which I know I’ve seen before, but can’t quite remember. It would translate onto the screen seamlessly, and it’s very visual and easy to imagine.. . . It’s a crowd-pleasing blockbuster of a novella, with all the thrills you’d hope for, and a cracking start to a series.  --Read the full review

George Young is host of the radio show "The Closers" reaching sports fans in Columbia, Missouri and beyond plus entertainment features. Author Peter Berk talks about TimeLock at the 30 minute mark with the host - available on stations KFRU and KLIK as well as podcasts. Peter discusses the "ultimate deterrent" in TimeLock and working with his father on the script, which he later converted to the TimeLock novel.

LA Daily News: Script yields posthumous credit in novel

For more than a year, he poured over the words he and his father had written for a movie that would now be a book. His father, an avid reader who loved Hemingway and got a chance to meet the adventurer/novelist in Spain where the Berk’s lived for five years, would have appreciated the irony. In Hollywood, novels become movies, but movies seldom become novels. What if this novel turns out to be successful? Will it then become a movie? Will the 23-year-old protagonist sentenced to age 40 years for a murder he didn’t commit find the ugly truth about TimeLock before he’s turned into a 63-year-old man? Hey, it’s Hollywood, Jake, anything can happen.
“I remember sitting with him kicking around some ideas for Star Trek, a show I knew even better than he did. I kept thinking, ‘Wow, what a great day sitting side-by-side with your dad working together, even if nothing came of it.'”  -Peter Berk on working with his father Howard Berk

Reviews

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Whoa!! Okay so this was awesome and I have to say first off- I hope like hell someone picks this up to make a movie or a show out of it!! This was a super interesting premise so I was hooked. It moved at a great pace and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.  -Book Blogger @gryffindorbookishnerd

Wow what a concept! This book had me with its synopsis. It totally gave me Minority Report vibes. (Oops dating myself 🤣) I loved it.  -Bookstagrammer @readwritedesign

This short book gives us so much action, suspense, and a bit of romance, and after that ending we got, I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

💭 TimeLock is a book that will make you think “why isn’t this a movie?” Its a high stakes sci-fi thriller that has spies and felons running for their lives in a futuristic world! Very intriguing content and unlikely characters . . .I think people who enjoy crime thrillers would enjoy this one too and its a short novella < 250 pages! So get it and start reading.  -Book blogger @monikasbookblog

If you’re looking for a short, action packed sci fi adventure this is very solid pick! The central concept is fascinating & I’ll be thinking about it for ages . . . -Bookstagrammer @angiearoundwonderland

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
While this is not my usual genre, I vastly enjoyed this quick read as the story was somewhat futuristic yet surprisingly realistic at the same time. The writing was keenly honed and smartly detailed with descriptions that pulled sharp visuals to my mind’s eye. In sum, was a well-plotted and shrewdly paced action-packed thriller featuring slightly frayed characters and storylines that were cleverly laced together with wry humor and witty snark. All my favorite things!
