About the story
Sam Abernethy plays by the rules, but his sister Alex does not. As Sam and his deaf niece Hannah struggle to recover from Alex’s sudden death, they experience communication from Alex in different ways. Sam inexplicably begins transcribing messages from the dead, while Hannah paints one image over and over that she’s convinced is sent by her mother.
As these strange events unfold, Sam and his investigative partner, Jack, get drawn deeply into the web of a dangerous serial arsonist. Desperate for answers, Sam turns to his estranged girlfriend Sara—a forensic handwriting analyst—and a quirky young science prodigy for help. When the arsonist turns their attention to Sara and Hannah, Sam’s connection to his sister comes together in an unmistakable sign that may be his only hope.
